***************************************************************************

Went out with Watermelon right after Joyceh's surprise party at Macs. We were supposed to go to the Ben 'n Jerry's at The Grand Cathay to listen to a live band, but (really unluckily) bumped into my ex-boyfriend there. That was fine actually, since ex-boyfriend was leaving. But the band happened to be taking a break, and Jun Zhan suggested going to a jazz pub.

Since I lost the mood for music and ice cream already (it's the second ex-boyfriend I bumped into already la. Singapore can be so small if you don't want it to), might as well try out the pub.

I managed to get a treat out of him on our way there for 1. failing to find our way in 12 minutes, and 2. walking around lost for another 25 minutes.

We both got Sex on the Beach, cos I thought I remembered it tasting nice the last time I tried it at Timbre. Today, I found out that having sex on the beach tastes like cough syrup. Those people must be sick to have sex on the beach.

Alcohol can be an amazing drink really.

JZ: Xxxx Xxxx..
Me: What about her?
JZ: She can be abit touchy...
Me: Like how touchy?
JZ: The hands, the shoulders..
Me: Am I touchy?
JZ: Today, you are.
Me: Sorry baby, it's the alcohol.

JZ: Can you not blink like that?
Me: Oops. Was I sending out electricity?
JZ: *nods head

Time passed really quickly too. We met at 9 going 10. The next time we did a time check, it was 1.30 am.

If I'm gonna carry on doing this, I'll really have to stock up on instant noodles and soup. Alcohol always makes me hungry for some incredulous reason.

Next stop. Papaya's induction. (With friends like these, who needs dates??)

The place we went; Bar Stop

My first date with Papaya!

*************************************************************
Someone told me today that I sure want to go back to hall after going for SWOC, cos I am that kind who just can't leave hall. Crapz. Everyone knew it but me.

*************************************************************

Wooohoooo!! Just got back from my first date with Papaya and I am damn. high. la. Hehehehehe.

We had dinner at this Japanese restaurant in Suntec. Tonkinchi, I think. The food wasn't bad, honestly. Worthy of the price.

My order

Papaya's order

Then we decided to do a bit of recce-ing around the Esplanade area for the upcoming fireworks festival. As luck would have it, the drizzle intensified while we were taking a peak at the floating stadium and we detoured into the Esplanade instead.

There, we saw the most amazing a cappella performance ever. The group was called the Harvard Dins, from the Harvard University in USA, and they are soooo cool la!

Their voices are amazing, their songs are so friggin' cool, and their choreography was sooo entertaining. The entire performance was just. Wow.

The (shining) Harvard Dins!

I was so high the entire train ride back that Papaya had to pacify me with promises of outings in the next two weeks to come.

Too bad Watermelon couldn't make it. Or else I could have my late night out before school started. Jun Zhan! It's all your fault! Your pants too long. Hehehe hahaha.

Hall.......

**************************************************************
A pastor told me yesterday that my greatest temptation would be a non-Christian boyfriend. I have a feeling that I may be facing my biggest rejection soon. Father, please tell me you have a really awesome guy for me up your sleeves...

**************************************************************

I. Miss. Hall. Suddenly all the push and pull factors that were there when I was in year one come flooding back. I remembered why I wanted to run away, why I didn't want to go home, why hall seemed like such a beautiful place.

Urgh. I want to go back.

My brother and me

***************************************************************
Whoa. I'm really itching for a late night out.. Papaya, Watermelon where are you????

***************************************************************

Brother: I dress nicer for school than you do for work.
Me: I dress for work like how I dress for school.
Brother: I dress nicer for school than you do for school.
Me: ... I need new clothes.

Brother: The neighbour's boy is damn cute la
Me: Kids like these make you want to get married and have your own.
Me: Then I look at our parents. Forget it.
Me: We should all just have kids without getting married.

Sometimes, I look at my parents, and I look at my brother. I never understood how he could turn out as good as he is. I look at myself, and then at my parents, I can pretty much tell where I come from. But my brother feels like he's from a different family.

And honestly, he got more crap than me growing up. I only had to deal with unreasonable expectations. His was BIG shit. Tempers, peer pressure, menopause, esteem attacks... The only thing he had lesser than me was expectations. And the role of the eldest child la.

How did I end up so screwed?

Flat stomach!

Woot. I finally saw my flat stomach again :D

I can get used to this. :D:D:D

My Evergreen Status

**********************************************************************
I've got a horribly screwed up system. I can't seem to eat (dinner last night was three stems of vegetables, 2 or 3 pieces of tofu, a spoonful of meat and two mouths of soup), I got the second major giddy spell in three days, and my fingers won't stop trembling.

Thank goodness my body clock is still normal.

**********************************************************************

I was chatting with a friend when he asked me a question about relationships and I suddenly got, in my opinion, a very wise insight.

I was telling him about my inability to commit and be stable enough to be in a relationship. Then he said that when I'm ready, there might not be guys around for me to pick.

I told him that was part 2 of the problem. I had to solve part 1 first. So he asked me how may parts did I think there were.

And then I gained that insight.

I think
There are three areas to resolve for every relationship. The first being us as a person, the second being our partner and our compatibility in terms of character and beliefs. Lastly, would of course be the ongoing relationship itself, and how each of us could still be our individual selves despite being attached.

Years ago, the onset of puberty and ensuing rush of hormones ensured the absence of the first two aspects. I soon lost my individual identity, and my friends. (Being separated into different classes was also a factor).

Sometime later, I learnt about problem no. 2. Residual hormones from puberty sucessfully concealed a very jarring problem no. 1. Passion lasted like an A-bomb detonating in water.

I no longer insensibly think I'm ready for relationships and commitment. Love immortalized by Hollywood is slowly being peeled away. An ugly core remains.

It's honestly nice having a boyfriend to take care of you, have a hand to hold, send a tingle down your spine everytime you kiss.. But beyond the intimacy and making out, what's next? Sharing your problems, listening to his, talking about your day, and sms-ing "I love you"?

Hm. No, thanks. I'm not so into that.

Hi, I live in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

Friggin cool. That's the name of a real town in WALES. I originally thought it was an aboriginal or tribal name from Africa or somewhere else exotic. But no. It's a town in Wales of the United Kingdom.

"The long form of the name is the longest officially recognised place name in the United Kingdom and one of the longest in the world, being 58 letters in length (51 letters in the Welsh alphabet, where "ch" and "ll" count as single letters). The name is Welsh for "St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave"."

Fastest date ever

*********************************************************
My brother just picked up a hobby of examining my Mammut. Every single piece of it.

*********************************************************

Today holds the record for the fastest date ever. But I couldn't ask for it to be any longer.

It was meet up, check out the movies, food, home.

I have never been so afraid of someone asking me to be his girlfriend. Ever.

We actually knew each other since sec 3, and through some strange reason or another, we became msn best friends. That was probably the only time I truly enjoyed our conversations. But we couldn't be together. Oh, we were both separately attached.

I actually prepared a rejection speech for him when I thought he was getting just a little too sweet in sec 4. But I never got to use it cos he only confessed when I was in J1. Idiot.

He was really nice on my nineteenth birthday. Reminded me of my birthday (which I honestly forgot about) one week earlier, asked me out, gave me a bouquet of blue roses (my favourite flowers), and a cute little bracelet.

At the same time, he was dating another girl from his school which he happily showed on his msn display. Could just die of diabetes with platonic friends like these.

And now. His hints no longer belong to the subtle/neutral category, he is getting a little over-enthusiastic/friendly and he is so very single. Shit.

My little rejection speech is entirely irrelevant, I've got no boyfriend at my disposal, and I have no blardy idea what to tell him.

Talk about a sticky situation.

My dream home

**************************************************************
The world boings when boing boing stops.

**************************************************************

I stepped into my room on Thursday and was hit by a blanket of rose scent in the air. I instantly knew what my dream home will be like in the (coming) future.

The decor will be clean and solid, with white as the main colour. The occasional green from apples or a lily in a vase made of glass.

Windows will run from floor to ceiling with white translucent drapes to match.

Apartment will be high above the crowds, revealing only the silent city below with the occasional sigh of tires when I step out of the house.

I'll have a massage chair in my study to soothe my aching back, and rows and rows of books shall line the shelves as a memory to my acquaintance with their authors.

Lights will only be yellow, as I love looking into windows with yellow lights peeking out from behind curtains.

A constant veil of roses will float in the air from the potpurri or real roses scattered around the house. My house will be a place I step in and fall in love, and feel peace. (A bit of irony there, I know)

Obviously no husband will be around to destroy the serenity.

Boing~!

Some of the people around me might have known, more than they were comfortable with, my boing boing phase. Inspired by the Sony (I think) mp3 player advertisement, I got quite intrigued by sounds. This is a post I've been wanting to write for a long time. Too bad I'm not a famous blogger, or I'd have given out prizes for anyone who can correctly decipher what I'm saying.

Boing boing.
Tick tock tick tock boing boing.
Ticktickticktick tock BOING.
Tick tock tick tock. Boing. Boing
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. boingboingboingboingboing.
Tic-k toc-k tic-k toc-k tic-k toc-k BOING!
tick tock boing...

Him

I sat down at one of the front rows with my friends chatting noisily away. Sometime later I heard a familiar voice behind. I turned around and my heart skipped a beat.

I was dressed in my sloppiest hall wear, slinging a heavy bag, having just reached school from home with no time to stop by hall for a change of clothes. I saw him walking towards me. His mannerisms were as I remembered. He didn't, or pretended he didn't, see me. My heart skipped a beat.

I made a decision to start talking to him again. Tried finding him on msn, then realised I didn't know if the email account was still active. Typed his name on Yahoo and got no results. Searched facebook, and saw his boyish looks staring back at me. My heart skipped a beat.

It has been six years.

Rain

***********************************************************************
I honestly wonder how I'll react when I find out that Tonghai just got attached, right before I smsed him.

***********************************************************************

Shall steal snippets of my boss' time to write. I remember a time in secondary school when I loved days like today. Heavy rain, no thunder, cold but bearable. It was umbrella duty day!

I will arrive really early in school, dump my bag in the classroom and run downstairs to the council room.

I can't really remember where we got the raincoats from. It was either General Office or in the cupboard below the blazers. But umbrellas were from General Office, no doubt. Then the whole group of us will head off down to the porch and bus stops dressed in rain coats, armed with umbrellas.

The fun wasn't really in sheltering people from the rain. That was fun, but not the greatest fun of all. The fun was being able to get wet legally. You get to wear rain coats, run out of school, splash around in the rain, and the teachers won't say anything.

I remember there was once a councillor forgot to put on her hood. She just used her umbrella to shelter Andersonians and herself. And she forgot all about it. When one of the seniors called her out, she pulled on her hood, with all the water it collected, and ran out. Her whole back was drenched.

Councillors wore white blouses with the kelly blue skirt at that time. In a sense, we couldn't afford to wear florescent bras, or get wet, or both.

But I loved getting wet. Not so I could show off my bra - they weren't much anyway. But it was fun!

In sec 4, when it was time to study for Os, and we were all relieved of our council duties, umbrella duty became a permanent memory. In sec 4 councillors also officially changed back to pinafores; no more light, fluttering skirts.

Whenever it rained in the afternoon or evening, I'll remove my school badge and name tag and pass them to my best friends while I walk outside the walkway enjoying the rain. Hahaha. They'll just nag at me throughout the whole walk to the MRT station, and again when I arrive in school the next day sneezing my head off.

I guess it's the affection as much as the fun that kept me addicted to rain. Like how I wish I still am today.

Sleeeeepy...

Something just zapped me of my life, I have no idea what. I am constantly sleepy, my fingers tremble uncontrollably, I find little interest in any other thing except lying on my bed on a rainy day feeling warm and protected from the cold outside.

I saw Batman's Bat Mobile yesterday. Looks just like a tank. If he doesn't dump it for his Lambogini (or however you spell it), I'm dumping him. His suit has improved though.

But too bad his voice is not as sexy as the cartoon's. And his moves were a bit clumsy. No wonder even Ong Sor Fern granted it only 3 and a half stars.

Joker was amazing. Psychotic. Amazingly psychotic.

Hormones

Sometimes, instead of holding back and keeping it in, maybe it would be better to let it out. The last time I ran to Joyce's room crying uncontrollably, digging up whatever cry-able history I had to pour my tears on. I didn't need the reasons. She did.

But that felt good.

I could return to my room, pack up and head out for tutorial after that. And that was the end of the episode. I returned to laughing, playing pranks and doing silly stuff.

Until today.

Hormones are still raging. It might be a big period coming.

Maybe I should just cry. Not in the office. At home, possibly. In my bed, in my locked room. No aircon, no ventilation. Just sobbing and letting it all out. No need to worry what I'm crying for, who the tears are for. There probably isn't anyone anyway.

Just really, really basic, instinctive, uncontrollable physiological reactions.

Yeah. Maybe I'll do that tonight.

Hormones

Hormones can be scary. As I found out not for the first time today. It can bring you up to the heavens in the skies and down to the pits of hell within the span of a day. Almost a bipolar disorder.

Hormones give you the good: joy, delight, excitement. They also give you the bad. Suddenly the world can seem the most despair, and hope seemed like it never existed.

That happened today.

It was most unfair to the people/person around me. I couldn't share the joy I had, for it was joy only for me. Yet I couldn't keep the sorrow within myself, for I wear my feelings on my face.

Love has disappeared from me. I don't even feel it for my family.

All it took, was that one last heartbreak.

I'm sorry.

Kodak moment

I was limping along Citilink today, trying to will my blisters out of my feet, when a mother carrying her baby caught up with me. I saw the most beautiful photo moment in the next minute to come.

The baby was in those carriers straddled across the mother's front. While the mum was walking along, the baby looked up and gazed at his (or her?) mum. The mum looked back down and they remained in each other's gazes for a whole half minute, before the mother planted a kiss on the baby's forehead.

Beautiful.

I immediately wished I could take out the Sony cameras on display and capture that perfect moment.

It was simply perfect.

The Dark Knight

**************************************************
I feel like doing something really dangerous. Hm. Should I?

**************************************************

Can't remember how the conversation went but somewhere along the way my colleague asked me "Who Batman? Your boyfriend arh?". Suddenly my brain mechanisms came alive and in three seconds I saw my entire courtship with Batman.

If only Batman was my boyfriend..

I'll be dating a billionaire with a faithful butler, looks damn hot in a tight suit, is the genius of our time, and owns the Bat Mobile. Can you imagine going for a car ride in the Bat Mobile?

We'll drive down ECP, racing with the planes overhead!

Every date is an excitement, never knowing when Joker or Penguin will show up. Or we could just go around the city making sure everything is safe in the Bat Mobile. We can even jump off a skyscraper or two for fun!

*droolz. If only Batmay was my boyfriend..

Men are all bastards

MEN ARE ALL BASTARDS! HOW MANY LESSONS DO YOU NEED TO GET THAT INTO YOUR THICK HEAD?!

Fuck. I'm so screwed. I want to see blood. How I wish my nose will bleed now.

Damn fisherman

This morning I woke up with an awful realization. And I thought, Shit, I might be in trouble.

Tonight, one church service, a meal and a movie later. I know, Fuck. I am in trouble.

I. Just. Got. Fished.

Damn.

A bus ride home

****************************************************
Dates can really be such enjoyable affairs. If the date is the right person :)

****************************************************

Argh. Caffeine's kicking in; trembling fingers and all. This is just like typing with spasms. And bad English.

I was on the bus heading home convinced that I've been brainwashed by Tiffany & Co, having heard the line "Hush baby don't say a thing, Mummy's gonna buy you a diamond ring" stubbornly playing in my head over and over and over and over again for no apparent reason. And the brilliance of it all, I haven't seen a single bluish-green ad with serif font and clean background the entire day, week, or month for that matter. That, is successful marketing.

As I was looking up at the clear blue sky with the occasional smudge of white, I saw four fighter jets silently drawing a beautiful arc across the canvas. Fifteen seconds later, the roar of their engines followed. By then, the jets had flown out of sight, leaving behind a dispursing trail of smoke/exhaust/dust/mist(?)

No one in the bus noticed. All of them had their heads up in the sky.

I so love the irony.

Different workplaces have different cultures. And I have definitely learnt stuff along the way. Some words and phrases, however, have taken on a new meaning.

Awkward silence - The silence over the phone as the receptionist puts you on hold but does not know how to turn on the music

Editor - The poor fella who has to correct the mistakes of the idiot before him on a gigantous Excel sheet.

Waiting - The state of watching several icons on your mac bouncing happily away while you wonder if the machine is going to crash

Wide screens - The best inventions ever. Prevents the colleagues behind you from noticing that you're spending a bit too much time on MSN. Of course, you must not be the one with the wide screen(s).

Cooling-off period - The time between getting a cup of water from the hot water flask and actually drinking it. Duration varies depending on tongue tolerance.

Casual dressing - Treating the office like your own home

Half flush - Uses half the amount of water and does half the job of a full flush. Needs to be executed twice to complete the job.

Jelly Chills - Name of a shipping company that does not sell bubble tea.

Anticipation - The yearn for lunch/end of the work day/Friday

Jealousy - Watching your friends leave work at 5.30 when their working hours are till 6 pm

Portable - Small, tiny, puny; too small for comfortable work

Squint - The result of the concept portability

The agonies of modern society

********************************************************
If anyone opened my head, he'll see a brain crawling out gasping for breath.

O-oh I so need to be in the presence of innocent stupidity. Like now

********************************************************

Two things happened in succession today. First I exploded. Then I imploded. Reason: Erratic internet connection.

This is the year two thousand and eight.

Whatever happened to worrying about the weather? Oh, those who did worry became fair-weather friends; very practically worrying about the weather. And there's the verb weather but the context in which it was used never seemed to imply that the people involved ever got flustered over the weather.

Knowing how internet works as my meagre knowledge goes, our sanity are comfortably in the hands of a handful of people(!) Oh look, there goes my blood pressure. Again.

What happened to the weather again?

End of the game and Jeffrey Archer

**********************************************************************
I spend 80% of my time outside (lunch breaks not included) exclusively with guys but my traffic light is still evergreen. Something is wrong somewhere.

**********************************************************************
Finally finished the book. Haha don't feel much actually. I thought I would know more about the tricks men used. But looking at the stuff written, it didn't seem very applicable in Singapore. Seriously, some of the negs would have earned the fella a slap from me. And women in Singapore are not that fuckable ya know.

Towards the end, the book got quite a bit boring. It was just one woman after the other. Same tricks, different bar. Funny there weren't stories about failed attempts towards the end. And Neil Strauss always seemed to be such an understanding person. Mature, logical, charming. Exactly how I would write myself.

Oh. And I hate Tyler Durden. Zero respect for him and his zero respect for women.

****************************************************

Some time ago, I was wondering why Jeffrey Archer named his book Kane and Abel when the two first names were Kane and Rovnowski. Initially I thought it was just because the name wasn't catchy. Only recently (yeah, I know a bit slow) that I realised it was from the Bible story of Cain and Abel.

Frankly speaking, the only talent I felt that Archer showed in Kane and Abel was writing style. In Shall We Tell the President, the plot was even worst - normal, predictable and lacked ingenuity. It probably could charm a secondary school kid. But more work will be needed when the kid grows five years older.

But these are just comments after reading his series on Kane and Abel. I thought The Prodigal Daughter was good; when I read it in secondary school.

Wanted

*******************************************************
I realise I keep saying yeah right and shit man.

I need new pet phrases.

*******************************************************

I went to watch Wanted today. The effects are so friggin' cool la. The trailers didn't disappoint. But I was cringing in my seat like most of the time. The graphics were er.. really graphic.

Angelina Jolie rocks as the seductive (slutty) Fox, and the guy playing Sloan keeps reminding me of Nelson Mendela. My morbid dreams had the character and style of Fox as well, but I used the sword more often than the gun.

I never knew binary code was around since a thousand years ago, but I'm not very surprised even if it was.

Still can't understand how they could decode the piece of cloth in such a short time. And how did they know which was the right way up arh?

Cynical humour was in all the right places. Rocks.

They got the healing liquid I so often had in my morbid imaginations. But I wasn't that creative with the names, and my healing liquid worked by accelerating cell regeneration.

The ending sucks.

My Rag Experience

Since we're on the topic of hall anyway, might as well blog about this speech that I daydreamed up while lying awake on my bed thinking about SECC.

I kinda daydreamed this scenario (many scenarios, actually) where I was asked to tell the freshies about my rag experience, and motivate them to join rag.

Haha not that I expect it to happen in real life anyway, but no harm dreaming about it.

So here goes:

"I was a rag dancer in my freshie year. I was a SECC camper too, and I had put down my name for rag after the camp. After watching the video for Midway Fair, I thought, 'Why not?'

We first began evening practices from 7 to 10, then later on from 10 to 10. During that time, we had a lot of fun doing stupid things in between practices. Like there was once we tricked Janice, the then Dance I/C, into starting practice half an hour later after our lunch break, and another time the whole bunch of us had a really rubbish conversation on what was the best way to shit.

Eventually Rag Day came. And we performed the fantasy of Daily Express.

That year, we lost.

Standing on the grass patch together with the shearites, we listened in silence as the announcer read out KR's name over and over again. Many tears fell as we could not hide our disappointment, and all of us left wanting to be champions the following year.

Second year, I was a SWOC. I wore my black attire emblazoned with the hall crest and stood on chairs with 11 other SWOCs and led the hall in cheers. That year Rag was at the Padang, and we were standing at a grass patch near the stage.

When our hall's performance came on, the sea of orange went mad. We cheered, we did the moves together, we 'pumped' the heart together. At that time, the stage had expanded to the sea of orange and the raggers standing offstage.

When our float moved off, and we quietened down, it felt like Padang was very quiet. Everyone was looking at us.

Actually, that day, basically only the 12 of us could watch the performance. The Shearites at the back were blocked by those in front, and those in front were blocked by us. But they just cheered, and did all the actions together. Everyone was just amazing.

That year, our hall brought home the Chancellor's Shield. It is our pride and a symbol of what our hall can achieve.

Rag is definitely not something that is done in a day or two. It is not easy, and it might not necessarily be fun. But the satisfaction and sense of achievement you get for watching your float drive down the parade is something that no one can deny.

Without that one scale from you, the float would never be complete, without that paint job you helped to do, the float will lack lustre, without that design you offered, the float would never win that shield.

At the very end of it all, every help counts. This is the Rag experience. And I hope you would not turn it away now that it is just right in front of you."

Breaking away

******************************************************
The men can't get it: Don't you think it's amazing how women can walk about doing their daily business as though there is nothing wrong in the world even though they are dripping blood uncomfortably into their panties??

******************************************************

Someone once told me "So, you're the kind who can't stop moving". I never realised that about myself, but when he said it, it jolted me.

Quite true arh.

I had begun my second year of hall feeling drained. I even talked to papaya how tired I was, and how suddenly I understood why back then in jc they felt that they were part-time students, full-time njps employees.

Throughout the second year, I yearned the elusive state of rest.

But then again, during the december holidays, I alternated between netball trainings in the day and Chingay practices at night. I'll wake up at 6 am, and collapsed into bed at 2 am. But I didn't feel tired. I only felt sleepy. (Sleepiness is easily combated with a rush of adrenaline. Tiredness halts that adrenaline.)

I guess I didn't need rest. I needed a break. From hall.

hm.. at this point, my post seems to be steering towards my decision to not stay in hall.. it's not intended, but since we're here, let 's just carry on.

I began my second year slowly recovering from a decimated self-esteem. It was debilitating, and there was no one to help me with it. And a lot of people to disrupt the process.

I am passionate about hall. I love hall. I love Block C, and I love the C-Towners. I get upset at phantoms, feel disappointed in people not willing to participate when they were very able to do so, and envy others who could go for events like DnD and all the dressed-up dinners without having to worry anything about their clothes or their pockets.

But at the same time, I felt that I could not stay on for a third year.

Just before this year's SECC, I lay awake on my bed at night thinking of the cheers that I knew, doing the stupid things we did, from freshie to councillor to senior, from bimbota gray to "backstage crew" to audience. How we've grown and changed and became immersed in a culture found nowhere else.

I love hall, and I always will. This is two years of my life I'll choose if given a chance to start over. But I feel that I'll have the courage to return only when I have become very sure of myself, and won't falter when I face the people who broke it down in the first place. It's not that I want to become the old me, someone who liked being angry and had no ears for anyone but herself.

But I want to regain and ascertain my confidence and be the person who is not afraid to be who she is.

Until then, hall life will continue being a fond memory I am proud of.

Praise be to God

Noticing that my special sem would end soon (it just ended today), I started looking out for internships about two weeks ago. Slightly more than one week ago, internships which began after June 20 started coming in. I happily applied.

My first application went in on 12 June (last week Thursday), and a couple more until 17 June (Tuesday). All the while, I was planning in my head for times when they called, and the possible scenarios that would occur. Shouldn't have planned. Up till yesterday, no one called.

From Monday till Wednesday, I kept praying for God to get me an internship, with really good pay. I told him I needed the money for exchange and I don't want a $400 internship. Really good pay. Like $750.

This morning, just after my exam, I got a call to go down for an interview. I nearly leapt for joy. Dropped by AMK Hub along the way to get a new pair of shoes. Went back, did more research on the company, got my things ready, dressed up and headed out.

The place was at Upper Thomson, like really near my place. Went in, and heard music playing while people in casual clothes walked around barefooted. Oooh.. I felt reaaaaally over-dressed.

When the "interview" formally started, I was pretty much told what I would be doing. Not questions normal interviews typically have. Immediately flashed back to my very first job "interview" where my mum's friend told me what I would be doing in the same manner too.

I think I asked the first question about the company, and her first real question to me was "So, when can I see you?" This was surreal.

When I asked how much my remuneration would be, she said "because this is an internship..."

I thought, "Oh oh. Not $400 please!"

and she wrote down the amount.

My eyeballs dropped out and rolled onto the table.

"Wow! That's really high!" I managed in a suppressed, excited, bewildered whisper.

"Yes, because we treat it as a real job, with real responsibilities."

"O...ok, if I were hired, I'll make sure I'm worth every cent." I could barely make out the words. (At that time, she hadn't asked her "so, when can I see you" question, so I wasn't entirely sure if I got it.

At that point in time, just like it is now, my head was just going "Hallelujah, hallelujah. Praise be to God, praise be to God!!!"

This is surreal.

All thanks to her

***************************************************************
With all the media attention that was on Clinton and Obama, I have pretty much forgotten how McCain looks like

***************************************************************

The team project requirement for NM 2220 was to create an e-newsletter. My group had six girls. None of us knew any shit about e-newsletter.

The lecturer explained to us really clearly what she wanted, the hyperlinks and what not. But by the third week, I was still quite apprehensive about the whole web business. No one knew anything la! Even I couldn't save the day, how could I ask someone else to do it and be there to kio sai if anything goes wrong?? What if something goes wrong???

I could take care of the photoshop bit, that's for sure (duh). But definitely absolutely completely totally surely not the html monster.

Then she said. "I'll do it."

"You sure or not?"

"Yeah. Should be ok."

Should be ok??

"Really arh?"

"Yup."

Today, after much refining and detailing (like doing word-rag like that), we handed up our e-newsletter. Originally felt quite cheated after the lecture cos we were asked to submit a zip file, which I felt totally defeated the purpose of asking us to do an online newsletter. Argh!

Anyway, the link is here. http://www.makani-news.blogspot.com/ It's definitely not any award-winning website, and not much to speak of. It's a writing module by the way. But I'm very, very proud of it.

And this is the lady who made it all possible.

She totally rocks la!

p/s hehe just realised the photo is not very flattering of her.. but that's the only one i have leh.. Just know that she's incredibly nice and amazing

Go cum elsewhere, loser!

***************************************************************
Don't you think the media is hinting at something with the repeated reports of disrupted rescue efforts in Sichuan?

Is it just me or are the problems seem to be mostly weather-related?

***************************************************************

Dear all lonely male strangers out there, please leave me alone when you see me. If I'm alone, I obviously want to be alone (duh!). If I'm with someone else, then I've got company already. So buzz off!

Stop asking for my number, stop stealing my contact information from some lucky draw ticket I filled out, stop getting my number on the pretext of some other business-related shit, stop sitting so close to me on the bus, stop asking stupid questions, and STOP PRETENDING TO INNOCENTLY TOUCH ME, ASSHOLE!

Fucking hum sup lo.

The Game

**************************************************
Makeup - the mysteries of left and right continue to baffle me

**************************************************

I bought Neil Strauss' The Game. When I was first introduced the book, I was filled with curiousity on what sort of pickup tricks words could possibly impart. I immediately wanted to have the book. But alas, the libraries only had CDs of it, and they were mostly on loan. Looks like I'm not the only curious person around huh.

So I resorted to buying it. When I first found the book at Kinokuniya, I was apprehensive. Instead of just grabbing it off the shelf and heading for the cashier, I hung around the aisles, randomly choosing books I was mildly interested in.

The Game was a man's book, or so I thought. Why on earth would a woman want it??

In the end, I reminded myself (the same way I always did when I felt people might look at me with a funny eye) that I was just as random a stranger as any other patron in the shop. And if I were to read a man's book, then I'll read a man's book. What the hell.

To prove my point, I took out the book to read at every opportunity throughout the day. I'll fish the kinokuniya carrier out of my bag, take out the book, open it and read it while holding on to the carrier. Some people did look. In my direction at least. But hm.. I actually like the attention :)

The first few pages brought both revelations and agreements. Revelation in that bringing a woman's self-esteem down and not showing interest was actually a bait to get her hooked, and agreement that amateurs display their fishing rods and hooks immediately, while the pro would hunt steathily.

There was another surprise as well. That pick-ups should be done on girls in a group. Funny I always got pick-ups when I'm alone, and from people hopeless at hiding their fishing rods. Haha maybe I shouldn't be the one reading this book after all.

Shades of grey

I love black and white photos. It always seem to tell so much more..

I languish the days back in nj when I can create my own black and whites. I could spend an entire Saturday from 10 to 4 alone in the darkroom printing. I could experiment with anything and everything I wanted, and not stop till I've got my perfect print. Such fond memories!

Bimbotic moment

**********************************************************
Early Wednesday morning, I heard the announcement that Aung San Suu Kyi's house arrest was extended over TV Mobile. The Singapore government expressed its disappointment to the Burmese government.

Reports on the cyclone and Sichuan quake has since taken over, and no more was mentioned of the extended house arrest.

I hate the Mayanmar junta.

**********************************************************

I was crossing the road near my house earlier today. Admiring my newly-done manicure, I noticed the green man coming on. As I took one step out onto the road, I heard someone say "Careful!”.

For that split second there, I freaking thought that was my conscience.

"I don’t want to die just after I had a manicure!” I told my conscience, and briefly hesitated in the middle of the road.

Then I turned around and saw a woman who repeated herself.
"Careful!” The exact same tone. “Watch out for the cars!”

Sheesh!

Do you see what i see?

*******************************************************************************
I once met this guy, and he said to me "I hate all those B pluses!" And I thought "Wow. This person is very intelligent."

Sometime later, I met another guy and he said to me "To me, B plus is very lousy." And I thought "What a showoff."

Amazing how some people just come across as losers, isn't it?

Finally got that huge, irritating *cough worse date ever *cough load off my chest!

Hehe. Happy days to come :)

****************************************
Mediacorp ran the charity show tonight. Quite a hastily put up show, obviously. But somehow, I just have my doubts about it.

What is it about the Sichuan quake that warrants an emergency charity show?

It is not the first or only major disaster in recent times. Why is it the only emergency charity show?

September 11 - nothing; Boxing day tsunami - nothing; Hurricane Katrina - nothing; Nicoll Highway collapse - nothing; Cyclone Nargis - nothing.

Not saying that there wasn't anything done, just nothing on the media besides Front Page attention. Why arh?

Pretty blood clot

Last night my nose bled and I spat out a new record of one blood clot (usually it's ten or more).

Ta-dah!

Pretty hor?

Confession

Today, someone confessed to me. Sort of, kind of, maybe, perhaps.
He said "hmm... but i quite tempted to chase u".

I do not know why, or how is it, that I did not feel anything when he said it. There wasn't the anxiety of anticipation, or racing heart from excitement.. I was just, normal.

This person, is someone very dear to me. Someone I ever told I did not want him to fall for me.

This topic has been going for quite a while. Since last year, I think. How we could stay as best friends, how we were maybe getting too close, what we should do if one of us gets a partner.

People don't get it. They all suspect something, or predict something. But, there was nothing.

Our conversation continued with me explaining how we won't work out together, and he accepting it. Then he said that it was my decision, so he won't regret. Then he went off to bed.

I don't know what he's feeling, or how he felt.

Maybe everyone who knew would say "I told you so". Maybe I'll be able to weather it out and reply them "I told you so".
Maybe, perhaps, possibly, probably.

Lunch at St. Regis

***************************************************
I wonder. Am I the only who thinks that Mahatir's mud-slinging is getting abit too childish? It was already childish before, it's just getting a bit too much now.
***************************************************

My mum and brother decided to have lunch at St. Regis as a belated Mother's Day celebration. When my brother told me about the place, I somehow had the notion that it was a restaurant called San Wedges at Tanglin Shopping Centre. Then again, their reply "Tanglin Shopping Centre there" to my question of where the place was doesn't bring much surprise.

So the three of us headed out in a cab to St. Regis for lunch.

When the cab alighted us at the doorstep of the hotel, I immediately regretted not putting on any makeup. Darn, this place spills with class.

Service was impeccable even with the lack of experience. We had lunch at the Les Saveurs restaurant which happened to be all about French fine dining. All three of us got the executive lunch set.

It was quite an eye-opener really. Sparkling water, or still water. Fruit juice or any other beverage. Crackers, multi-grain, breadsticks with butter... My brother ordered a Bloody Mary without knowing it was Bloody Mary. Ha! He was soon flushed red from the alcohol but still insisted there wasn't any alcohol in it.

I used to think that I wouldn't fit in or feel comfortable in such fine dining atmospheres. But surprisingly, I fitted in quite well. I wasn't out of place or uncomfortable, or unsure of what to do. In fact, I was quite comfortable, didn't feel restricted and was quite happy. Hm.. Maybe I'm not as uncouth as I thought I was.

Appetizers was a Profiterole or a Spanish Cacciopo. That one went quite uneventfully. Just a bit of cross-tasting and exclamations.

Then came the main course, which was a choice between pan-seared cod or black angus beef. My mum chose the fish since both my brother and I chose the beef.

Pan-seared cod

Black Angus Beef

When the main course was served, my brother took a look and said, "Darn, I should have chosen the cod."

"Why? Too small har?"

"Yeah la."

"It's French dining wat."

"Never knew it was this French."

When we started on the main course, I immediately wished I hadn't listened to my mum and brother for my beef to be medium.. If I had dentures, I would have swallowed it already. Next time, I'll go for medium rare.

Dessert was an interesting course. Mum and bro ordered some banana and chocolate nem. I ordered Cherry, which was supposed to have cherry ice cream which tasted more like sorbet. But the surprise was that the ice cream was served atop creme brulee that was camouflaged so well I thought the caramel crust was actually the base of the plate. Haha yum yum!

After lunch we headed to Marketplace Paragon. It's a high-end supermarket catering largely to expats, judging from the product range and lack of Singaporean accents over there. They do have quite interesting offerings, like olives stuffed with chilli, saffron strips, lemon pepper and all those stuff not usually found in our NTUC.

With a morning like this, someone tell me I don't live in a HDB flat..

Applications closed

Today, I learnt for the second time that the female homo sapien, being the gender less physically developed, is in no position to stop the male specie from doing what the latter intends to. At all. (Second time because I had actually known it very early on, but clear for all to see, I didn't learn my lesson.) *pui

I CAN'T STAND IT!

And I've finally gotten it into my thick head that attraction based on looks gets me nowhere. At long last, "Ability to hold an interesting conversation for a prolonged period" moves up to number one on my list. "Looks" and "Accomplishments" banished to five and six. But "Intelligence above mine" remains second. I don't need insecure guys because I just so happen to be cleverer than them (and have them proclaiming their achievements repeatedly to cover their inferiority complex). Yuck!

A friend once said that my No. 2 criteria would eliminate three quarters of the guys out there. But oh what the heck, if my market's gonna be smaller, then so be it.

Irritation aside, I think I've lost that special feeling. The skip of a heartbeat, rush of endorphins, blushes, shyness.. Feels like a dead knot permanently sealed by a flame. Hm..

All of a sudden, I feel so bent on my single lifestyle. Hectic, but satisfying.

I remember I ever posted an entry declaring "Applications Open" like about one year back. I'm not exactly sure what the status is now, but after tonight, I've decided. APPLICATIONS CLOSED.

I'm switching to evergreen.

*********************************************************

I was watching the tv in my first few hours of freedom and saw this whole commersial by Singapore Sports Council. It's surprising well done leh! just that the inspirational words don't really seem to fit in.

Can just check it out at singapore.sg

*********************************************************

Hehe I kinda ran out of stuff to talk about, but my random thoughts are still going on.. So the star of the post today is my random thought!

my God-mindedness

**************************************************
I have a bit of inspirational problems with the story, so I'll just leave it hanging first while I get on with my life

**************************************************

This entry might not appeal much, if at all, to non-Christians. But oh well, the purpose of the blog's existence sure is more than entertaining you.

I marvel at how I look to God only during exams, and not much during the rest of the sem. Sure, I got quite burn out during the sem, but I chose to continue to rely on my own devices despite the tiredness (if there's such a word).

I didn't realise my 零时抱祖脚 mentality at all until I saw my grades for a 20% assignment. C+. Oh... my.... goodness... Le Hia is actually capable of getting C+ (I'll admit. With this line, I have highlighted 1. my un-God-mindedness, 2. my arrogant complacency)

That was the first C+ I'd ever seen. Not surprisingly, it didn't elicit the same feelings as when I saw my first A+.

It just totally came back and hit me hard, right smack in the face. This is where I get when I rely only on myself. Me, myself and I. The perfect formula for failure. C+.

Why didn't I look to God during that time??

It's so easy to say things on hindsight, isn't it? Sighz. The folly of Man!

The Lord has indeed helped me with my grades everytime I asked Him to (He's a faithful God, wat). Sure, some people might say I still got a B even though I prayed and put my entire faith in Him. But hey, I got A pluses too. Notice the plurals and singular. I got 1 B each for sem 2 and 3, none in sem 1. But the A pluses have been increasing from sem 1 to 3 (from 0 to 3).

God helps. But only when you ask for it. Fortunately or unfortunately, I only seem to remember him during the final exams, and less so during the semester. Suffice to say, it's quite obvious that my A pluses come from modules with heavy weightage on the final paper, and the Bs (and B pluses for that matter) come from moduels with low weightage on the final paper.

It's such a startling revelation isn't it?

This was a verse I found after randomly opening a page

The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
John 6:63

Chapter 6

***********************************************
I seriously think Thailand did the right thing in announcing they will not cut rice exports now. Someone should give the fella who made the decision a Novel peace prize.

***********************************************

The ruffian shielded his eyes from the blinding sun as he turned a corner off the back alley. Right into the priest himself.

Partially blinded and unable to see, the ruffian squinted long and hard before he could make out the vague outline of a long robe.

"Good day, Father. What a surprise to see you around town." He managed uneasily.

"Only a surprise if you don't expect me here."

"Why wouldn't I expect you here? It's not the church but it's still the town and you have every right to be here, even if it's at the corner of a back alley with very few people." The ruffian grew confident as his eyesight restored.

"You're still a case of wits aren't you, Ruffian? Tell me, have you got anything to do with the popularity contest?"

"I'd love to say I didn't just to spite you, but you'll know about it anyway when I go confess my sins at the end of the week. Of course I had something and everything to do with it! The whole town had. We voted, yeah?"

"Very clever remarks, but my question remains unanswered."

"Dear priest, you are an intelligent man yourself. Don't come looking for me alone and expect me to talk. Gather the whole group and we'll be more than happy to tell you what we think, then see for yourself if it was ever our doing in the first place." he paused. "Good afternoon, Father."

The ruffian raised an imaginary hat, spun on his heels and walked away mocking a gentleman.

The priest watched the ruffian vanish around the corner and sighed. A turmoil of anger and resignation swirled giddily inside, sending an acute shot of migraine straight up his spine. He turned and began a painful walk back to the church.

Chapter 5

*************************************************
I wonder. Is Singapore the only country that didn't really wanted independence in the patriotic, protest-y way so rampant now?

*************************************************

A deliberate chain of knocks sounded through the cellar and a long line of light briefly illuminated the dark insides. The door silently swung shut and a bolt latched into place. Deft footsteps fluttered down the stairs and a small kerosene light came on.

"Did you hear what happened to the paper boy?"

"His only mistake is working for the papers."

"But that's not even his fault"

"The fault should probably be ours."

"But we didn't do anything! Much, at least."

The rush of hushed voices increased as the participants got more excited. Deep in the cellar of the diplomat's house, the diplomat's wife, the clockmaker, the wine seller and the local ruffian had gathered in the midst of the afternoon siesta.

"Who else has the priest talked to?"

"The milkmaid, so far all I've heard."

"What did he ask her about?"

"Oh. The popularity contest I guess."

"Ha ha! The milkmaid thinks everyone is nice. How could he ask her? "

"Oh well. I guess every bit helps?"

"Who do you think he'll find next? "

"Me. I'm the most undiplomatic diplomat's wife around. "

"Oh please. It'll definitely be me. I happen to be the hooligan around here ya? "

"Agreed." The wine seller and clockmaker answered in unison.

Silence fell on the quartet as they contemplated their situations.

"If he comes to look for me, then so be it. I'm not afraid." The ruffian proclaims.

"Me neither." Wine Seller replies. Clockmaker and Diplomat's Wife nod in agreement.

The kerosene light snuffed out as silent footsteps ascended the stairs.

Chapter 4

**************************************************
I just realised an ex-boyfriend of mine is a very useful object of fantasy. No wonder I thought I couldn't get over him. Hm...

**************************************************

The crow of the rooster signalled the rise of dawn. The priest opened his eyes and stared at the peeling ceiling above him. Hm. We need a new paint job soon.

With a long creak of the mattress, the priest arose from his bed and dressed up. He had not forgotten his promise.

After a quick meal of plain broth and bread, he headed out into the morning sun. Walking along the main street, he saw the villagers go about their routine, opening up their stores and displaying their wares.

He saw a milkmaid and stopped her in her tracks.

"Morning, Father. Surprised to see you here so early in the morning."

"Good morning, milkmaid. Indeed, I would like to hear your views on a matter."

"Sure thing, Father. What is it regarding?"

"I came to know of this popularity contest ran by the newspaper. Have you heard about it?"

"Oh yes, I have. It was quite a big affair, running for a couple of weeks in the papers, I think."

"Excellent. Do you know about the Top Ten Unpopular People then? The list was just published two days ago."

"The Top Ten Unpopular People list? No, I haven't heard about it. Maybe I missed it."

"Well then, let me just ask you what do you think about our dear bell boy?"

"The boy who rings the church bell? Oh, he's a pleasant boy. Met him a couple of times, quite like him, I feel."

"Alright. Thank you for your time, Milkmaid, it's been a good time talking to you. God bless."

And they parted ways.

What a pleasant little girl. The priest thought to himself, and walked on.

Chapter 3

The priest left the paper boy's house feeling proud of his successful rectification.

"At least that'll stop the boy from spreading nonsense through his papers." He thought.

As he walked back through the town square, he noticed the sky turning dark and decided to head back to the church instead. Back in the church, he made a quick beeline to the bell boy's room; he was eager to let the bell boy know what he accomplished for the day.

But when he stepped into the tiny room, he saw the bell boy in tears.

"Why are you crying, my dear boy? Who did what to you now?"

Still sobbing uncontrollably, the boy pulled a crumpled sheet of newspaper out from his drawer and showed it to the priest.

"Not only do the people not need me anymore, they don't like me either!" And he crescendoed into amazing howls.

The priest took the newspaper from the boy's hands and saw the mentioned article in a tiny corner.

Top 10 Unpopular People in our town
1. The Tax Collector
2. The Squire
3. The Bell Boy
4. ...

The priest sighed and looked at the wailing boy.

"It's ok, my child. Rest early tonight. I'll go speak to the people first thing tomorrow morning."

The story continues

**************************************
Shit man. Was on my way to school to do stuff for 2208, and was so tired that I fell asleep on the bus. Woke up when I felt someone playing with my bra strap (I was wearing a singlet). At first I thought it was someone who knew me, and ignored it at first. Then it continued, and I turned back. WTF! Some weirdass nerd-looking fella stretched his arm along the window and was fingering my bra strap from the seat behind.

TMD. For the outrage you caused me (yesterday), you have been repaid ten fold, and you will never be able to lift up your head when you see me again.
**************************************

The priest walked by the town square when he heard the paper boy shouting the headlines at the top of his lungs.

"Come get your papers! Harvest season starts! More fashionable clocks available now! Come get your papers!"

The priest took quick strides over to the paper boy and snatched a copy from him.

"What do you mean more fashionable clocks? These machines are evil!"

The paper boy was taken aback by the snapping priest and only managed to quiver, "What do you mean, Father? These clocks are all the rage. And they help people tell the time. They are good."

"How can they be good? Do you have any idea how hurt the bell boy is now because of these atrocities? I am taking you to your father."

With that, the priest grabbed the startled boy by the ear and dragged him all the way home. The paper boy's dad had just reached home for his afternoon break, and just when he was ready to kick up his feet for a nap, the priest burst through the door dragging the poor boy with him. "Excuse me, Mr. Jones, I need to speak to you."

Now, the paper boy's father held the priest in great esteem, on hearing the gravity of the priest's tone, he solemnly led the priest outdoors, leaving the sobbing boy alone in the house.

An hour and a half passed before the father re-entered the house. He walked over to the boy, and towering above him, he said in the gravest tone the boy had ever heard, "Son, what you did was wrong. These clocks have wrongly perpetuated our lives, and you have wrongfully condoned it. The true messenger of time is the church bell, not these objects of materialism. You are to apologise to the priest for your foolish comment now."

The boy stared back at the father he had held in awe. How could my father be so blind to believe the priest? Refusing to give in, he ran out of the house feeling most miserable for his father's betrayal..

Ringing the bell

Long ago, there was a church with an extremely high bell tower. High up in the tower, was a large bell that rang loud and clear. The church had a bell boy, and his job was to ring the bell every Sunday. The boy was a pleasant boy, he loved his job, he loved the bell, he loved the church and the people.

Now, the people of the town depended on the church bell to tell them the time to head for the church. Back in those days when electricity was not a word, these primitive measures dictated the livelihood of the people. But the boy had a bad habit; he would oversleep. And he'll miss the time to ring the bell, and everyone would be late for church.

People began to not trust the bell, and devised their own methods to tell the time. Some reared several roosters, some fashioned a moon dial, others used the river and the water mill. No one listened to the bell anymore.

And so, when the boy awoke from his prolonged slumber, he was surprised to see the masses already gathered at the church hall. Then the priest would begin his sermon, and mass would begin. And this went on for serveral weeks. The boy realised people didn't need his bell anymore.

The priest noticed that the bell wasn't ringing, and he questioned the bell boy. The boy told him that people didn't need him anymore, and he felt sad. He said that people would arrive even though he hadn't ring the bell, and that mass would begin as though nothing was amiss.

The priest thought about it for a moment, and decided that he had to do something. He made a trip into the town, and saw the various contraptions that the people had made to help them tell the time. He felt angry for the boy, and went around telling the people that they were wrong in building their own clocks. They should be listening to the church bell!

Eh.. hehe. Story stops here. To be continued. Need to go do my portfolio liao.

Love card 2

Ooh! Forgot to say.. For the old couple design, the picture of two dentures is meant for the inside of the card. So you'll open the card, and you'll see the two dentures. They're not side by side like how I blogged.

Love Card

I have no idea where I read it, or how it got into my head, but originally, I thought that there was a compulsory requirement to use red as the colour code for the card.

I started out with two designs. One of hands held together, and another with two old people holding hands. But when it came to adding colour, I realised that I simply didn't know how to use red and people together.

So I came up with a third one, and one that is very common - hearts.

And this is what I presented to the class:

But my favourite design was still the old couple. It was my bright idea! So I showed the sketch that I scanned into the computer. And apparently, no one else except me knew of any compulsory colour code. And so.. I did my old couple in the end!

This is what I brought to class the second week:

The shadows were quite haphazardly done, so that explains the funny shape. Suggestions given were to make the gums redder, and to elongate the shadow so that it doesn't look like a reflection..

And so.. This is my final product!

Nice?

Poster - NOT final copy

Okz. That's my poster to STOP GLOBAL WARMING. Haha soooo many criticisms for it, I must have gone terribly wrong somewhere..
1. Too block-ish, no flow for the eye.
2. Ice cube needs to look less perfect.
3. Words are over-dramatic
4. No one noticed the green spot (signifying dry land) at the corner..
Haiz. So my (super major) improvements/ammendments are:
1. Change poster to portrait
2. Use hour glass, melted ice cubes on top, dripping water to submerged Singapore below
3. Change the words - copyright to be thought of again
4. Forget the green spot. Bleah.
Haha. Recently I've been very time/sleep deprived. So I'll work on my poster then post it up again!

Photo story

I've always wondered what it was like doing a photo essay. hahaha. Now I finally understand. No mean feat indeed.

Those are my first 9 photos. Haha. Didn't storyboard well, so ended up with one photo less without realising it. The sixth and ninth photos were edited after the tutorial though. (forgot to save as..)

And here are some of the comments given in class:

1. Could not really tell that she's leaving her place for the library. Maybe could include her wearing her shoes or pressing "1" in the lift or something

2. Cannot really tell it's the librarian (this comment one I made myself, after feedback from someone else outside class). So I gave her a books badge (in the original photo). People suggested she could bun up her hair, or look older, or change to a less cute model. But the model part is a bit more difficult, cos not many other people can act like her.

3. Could maybe put the National Library Board's logo at the entrance of the library, so people will be clearer it's the library. But after it was clarified that words can be there, as long as it's photographed by me, I think there's no need for it.

4. Also a comment made by myself: The last photograph would be where the girl leaves sadly out of the library. In my original storyboard, I had wanted the librarian to be the last photo. But looking at it again, I felt that it does not have a nice conclusion to the story..

And so, with those comments, I came up with an improved photo story! haha.

Is the story better told now?

Representation... again

***************************************************************************
Taking a break from 2208, I would just like to rant for a minute or two here.

There are two things I utterly detest when it comes to photography.

1) Not being given credit
2) Being taken for granted for

Argh! Yo all you nice people out there. Please get this in your head. We are not a committee under you. Don't just go around having your own big plans and expect us to fill in the holes for you. If you can't plug the gaps yourself, then scrap it la. Sheesh! And what's up with not giving us credit?? Those photos belong to us ya?
***************************************************************************

Ok. Back to 2208.

Dear Jing and fellow classmates, please ignore the above section. This is my personal blog after all, and I needed some place to rant it out la.

Okz. Back.

I was sitting on my design idea for the Representation design, and kinda decided that it still wasn't enough. And I worked on it, and worked on it. Partly inspired by Chen Guo's vending machine, and also the lack of a bright idea on my side. (That's the thing with design. It's always the bright ideas that work. But they don't come by easily.)

So I sat on it (the idea), and sat on it, and slept through it. And I finally developed the design. (It's developed cos it still didn't come with a big idea).

I originally wanted to put the big windows at the bottom half of the laptop, but it looked weird. So I left it like the logo it is on my own laptop. I also feel that the big windows symbol on the screen is more representative of a windows operating system. So hey, I've chosen the last one! :)
