Fengshui and Logic

You know the thing about fengshui, it's basically an unproven science but it has hordes of believers. There is really no logical explanation for placing, say, a crystal on a tree next to the wall of your house facing south for good business and stuff like that. But if we really think about it, all the practices and beliefs all have historical origins. A house on top of a hill is better because people used to dump dirty water outside their houses which eventually flowed downwards and into the houses downhill, a house facing the south is better because the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, so it's more shaded. A lot of these things came from the daily lives and menial tasks of people from (where else?) China.

But fengshui has spread and grown to the rest of Asia and even America. And it's supposedly working. What with all the chi and energy and elements. They could be easily labelled nonsense and be forgotten. But fengshui is still going strong because, I propose, that it is a system built on people and hence will grow or shrink depending on people. Because people believe, so it is true. Because people practise, so it works. Because people spread the word, so it expands. But it is also that fengshui worked before and so people believe.

Logical Science on the other hand, is built on practical, tangible stuff. Things you can see, and touch, you can experiment. Things you can experiment, you can prove. And things you can prove, it is true. Why is the world practising logical science? Because it's the most believable. Everyone can see and touch. But not everyone can believe. Asking them to believe after they have seen or touch is much easier than asking them to believe without any instant results.

As with human nature, the evolution of issues and matters always takes the easiest way out. And so, the most dominant science practised now takes the form of logic, and not something more abstract like fengshui.

Darn! I should have submitted this for my GP essay. I might not get above 35, but at least my grade will be better.
